The New Risk Economy

Insurance, AI & Cross-Border Capital

AI connected to infrastructure, capital, energy and risk

The world of risk is being fundamentally reshaped.

Artificial intelligence is transforming how businesses assess, price and manage risk, while geopolitical shifts, evolving regulation, cyber threats and increasingly interconnected markets are changing the nature of exposure itself. At the same time, capital is becoming increasingly global, creating new opportunities—and new complexities—for insurers, investors and financial institutions operating across borders.

The New Risk Economy is a closed-door executive roundtable bringing together a select group of leaders from insurance, financial services, investment, technology and the broader business ecosystem to examine what comes next.

AI & the future of insurance

How AI is changing underwriting, claims, risk assessment and insurance distribution.

The changing nature of risk

From cyber and climate to geopolitical and technology-led risks, what risks are businesses preparing for next?

Cross-border capital flows

How global capital is moving across markets, and what this means for insurance and financial institutions.

Trust, data & regulation

Balancing innovation with governance, transparency, privacy and regulatory expectations.

New insurance models

Where technology, embedded insurance and alternative risk solutions are creating new opportunities.

The convergence of insurance & investment

How insurers, investors and asset managers can address emerging risks and unlock new pools of capital.

Why this conversation matters

The next decade will not simply bring new risks—it will change how risk is understood, priced, transferred and financed.

This roundtable is designed to create a candid, high-quality exchange between leaders navigating these shifts firsthand, with a focus on insights, opportunities and actionable perspectives rather than presentations or pitches.

The discussion will be invite-only and held under Chatham House Rule, enabling participants to share perspectives openly and meaningfully.

We look forward to convening an exceptional group of leaders for a conversation on what the new risk economy will mean for capital, businesses and markets globally.

Modern data centre corridor

Why This Conversation, Now?

The AI infrastructure build-out is happening at a pace that is challenging conventional approaches to risk.

For the largest data-centre projects, the question is increasingly not simply how much insurance costs — but whether sufficient capacity exists at all.

The economic life of the technology inside these assets can be far shorter than the financing horizon.

This creates a new risk equation

  • Long-duration capital.
  • Shorter-duration technology.
  • Increasing physical concentration.
  • Limited insurance capacity.

The result is an emerging gap between the risks being created by the AI economy and the mechanisms available to transfer them. That gap is where the next generation of insurance thinking begins.

Why Insurance Matters to the AI Story

Insurance becomes part of the infrastructure of capital itself.

Insurance has traditionally been viewed as protection that sits around an investment.

But AI infrastructure is challenging that model.

When insurance capacity can influence the bankability of a multibillion-dollar project, when downtime can create losses without conventional physical damage, and when technology can depreciate faster than the underlying asset, insurance becomes more than a safety net.

New approaches are beginning to emerge — from:

  • Parametric downtime protection
  • Technology performance guarantees
  • Residual-value protection for high-value compute equipment

What should be insurable in an AI economy — and what shouldn't be?

Introducing J.B. Boda

The risk beneath the infrastructure.

The exposures around AI infrastructure run the full life of the asset — construction and commissioning, operations, financing, technology performance, and eventual obsolescence. Most of the market sees one stage at a time.

Brought RIMS into India; strategic alliance with PARIMA, 2023

He spent thirteen years on the board of an American broker network. He is not a visitor here.

Gautam Boda joined the Group on 1 December 1994, as an officer, in the firm his grandfather founded in 1943 — at a time when reinsurance broking did not exist in India. He learned underwriting, claims, client servicing and reinsurance negotiation from the floor before taking responsibility for the Group's global operations across insurance broking, reinsurance broking, risk consulting and maritime services.

What he built is what this roundtable is about. He established the Group's empanelment with international insurers and reinsurers to design and support complex global programmes for multinationals operating in India, and a dedicated team for Indian companies investing abroad. He created the Ports & Terminals and Employee Benefits verticals, built the Group's technology platforms, and expanded its footprint across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

He chairs the International Benefits Network. For over thirteen years he served as a board director and Asia-Pacific regional chair of Assurex Global — the Ohio-headquartered network of independently owned brokers, more than 500 partner offices across six continents, of which J.B. Boda is the exclusive Indian partner. He brought the Risk Management Society into India through a strategic partnership, signed an alliance with PARIMA in December 2023, and represents the Indian sector on CII's National Committee on Insurance & Pensions.

Bringing the American risk-management profession into India was his first corridor. Insuring American capital inside India is the next one.
